Name of the supervisor: Prof. Anu Sabhlok

Research Focus: My research interests are generally on Tribes and Borderlands in western Himalayan region. I am interested in the evolving identities of Tribes in Ladakh and in understanding the conflict ridden and conflict prone space they occupy. These communities are both socially and geographically at the periphery. In what ways does local, regional, national and global politics transform everyday lives in the Himalayan periphery? How do histories and geographies of political conflict, trade networks, religious movements and infrastructural investments intersect with the local and the everyday in Ladakh particularly for tribal communities.
