Research Focus: My research is an attempt to study the history of tobacco in Travancore between the 1750s and 1920s. The thesis seek to understand the trajectory of the commodity by situating it at the intersection of regional trade, state regulation, agrarian practices and everyday consumption and in doing so, the study moves beyond the linear narratives of global commodity expansion.
