Research Focus :
Archaeological conservation of rock art: With the emphasis on material technology, its scientific analysis, on-site steps for conservation-preservation and after-care of the rock art from some of the sites in Hoshangabad and Sehore District of Madhya Pradesh. Few scientific works have been done on the rock art in India due to inadequate sampling methods. Many samples get contaminated during the process many times for analysing the mineral pigments used in rock art that can tell us the age of paintings, materials used, and practices by artists of that period. In recent years, the use of modern analytical techniques to investigate rock art pigments has been expanding, and I’m going to apply such techniques that have been used at sites in India and around the world. The types of archaeological information that can be extracted from the analysis of specimens collected from the rock art at their respective sites and their methodologies will be discussed through some of the notable work done. A review will be provided for the applicability of the techniques used for primary analysis and structural characterisation of rock art pigments and how future technological developments will influence the discipline and will be implemented in my research area.
