About Me
My name is Jasjeet Singh Bagla. I was born in Agra in 1969, a town in north India, famous for the Taj Mahal, amongst other things. Delhi is where I grew up, went to school, college and university. In 1992, I moved to the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), Pune, as a research scholar. My PhD thesis was titled Gravitational Clustering in an Expanding Universe.
I joined the Institute of Astronomy in Cambridge, U.K. as a postdoctoral research associate in 1996. I worked there for two years.
Later I spent a bit more than a year at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, MA as a postdoctoral research associate.
I then joined the Harish-Chandra Research Institute (HRI) in Allahabad. I joined the Physics department at HRI in November 1999. I was a part of the astrophysics group there. I worked at HRI up to July 2010.
At present I am working at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Mohali, I have been here since July 2010. Apart from research, I have also been involved in many other activities from scientific societies and outreach to administration. You can see my CV here.
I am married to Harvinder. She is a physicist and likes travelling and music. We have a son named Janak. He was born in Aug.2005. You can see them here in a picture taken in June 2019 at Nako lake.
