The word Jasjeet is formed by combining two Punjabi words: Jas, meaning fame, and jeet, meaning winning or winner of. (Both of these words are derived from very similar words in Sanskrit, for example the equivalent of Jas is yash.) In short, I am expected to become famous. Amen.
Singh, meaning lion (yes!), is a name that every Sikh has. It is a sort of extended family name.
Bagla is our family name. A bit of a puzzle this, as most Baglas come from a part of Rajasthan whereas my ancestors come from western Punjab. Western Punjab is now in Pakistan, so it is not easy to figure this one out. Maybe, some day, leaders of our countries will think of each other in more friendly terms.
