Advertisement for Project Coordinator (Community Engagement) and Project Coordinator (Design) under Small Town Air Quality Project

 1. IISER Mohali description

The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Mohali, an Institute of National Importance, established by the Government of India, MoE (erstwhile MHRD) in 2007 to carry out research in frontier areas of Science and provide quality Science Education & Research at the undergraduate and post graduate levels.

 2. Project Description

The project concerns air pollution in smaller cities in north India: the sources, how the issue is perceived by residents and local government officials, and on what actions can be collaboratively conceived and carried out. It has the following objectives:

  • To generate a community-engaged understanding of the local airshed and larger environmental concerns.
  • To build capacities to understand pollution's extent and sources, and to envision locally-appropriate actions.
  • To communicate learnings for the benefit of other regional urban centers and the wider community.

 3. Terms of Reference

Vacancies –

Project Coordinator (Community Engagement): One (1) contractual position for 24 months

Project Coordinator (Design): One (1) contractual position for 24 months

 4. Qualification

 Project Coordinator (Community Engagement)

 Essential

a. Master’s degree in Urban Studies, Development studies, Urban and Regional Planning, Sociology / Anthropology or related field with a good proven academic record.

b. At least two years’ experience in research / field work/documentation work related to urban issues.

c. Demonstrable experience with the use of qualitative methods like oral history and

ethnographic research.

d. Good writing and communication skills with proficiency in Hindi and English.

e. Willing to undertake field visits / travel in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Delhi.

f. Demonstrable experience of coordinating projects and leading small teams.

 Preferable

  1. Proficiency in Punjabi language
  2. Coursework and/or project work on environmental issues
  3. Experience in videography and editing work
  4. Experience in conducting archival work

 Project Coordinator (Design)

 Essential

a. Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Architecture, Urban Design or related field with a good proven academic record.

b. At least two years’ experience in research / field work/documentation work related to urban issues.

c. Demonstrable experience of spatial analysis and visual storytelling using software such as Adobe Illustrator, Storymaps, ArcGIS

d. Good writing and communication skills with proficiency in Hindi and English.

e. Willing to undertake field visits / travel in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Delhi.

f. Demonstrable experience of coordinating projects and leading small teams.

 Preferable

  1. Proficiency in Punjabi language
  2. Coursework and/or project work on environmental issues
  3. Experience in videography and editing work
  4. Experience in ethnographic and qualitative methods

 5. Job description

1. Coordinate the project under the guidance of the PI.

2. Coordinate with collaborators in the fieldsites including government officials, civil society organizations, residents

3. Conduct interviews, mapping, document analysis, participant observation

4. Organize community events like stakeholder meetings, workshops, and exhibitions.

5. Assist project team with public communication including reports and research papers.

6. Assist with official work at IISER Mohali

 6. Emolument

The monthly consolidated payment would be Rs 55,000/ per month in the first year, and Rs. 60,000/ per month in the second year.
