Note: Normally, after coursework Integrated PhD students continue to PhD: they should qualify a comprehensive examination to be conducted by a committee headed by the potential supervisor to qualify for the same. However they may instead opt to submit a Master’s thesis (additional year) instead of a PhD thesis subject to the guidelines of senate. Please consult Dean Academics office for details and specific requirements.
PhD Program
The program entails two semesters of coursework followed by a comprehensive examination to be conducted by a committee headed by the potential supervisor qualifying which enables the candidate to start with their PhD. There is a minimum CPI that is required to be maintained in the coursework, and other performance requirements for a candidate to be eligible for writing the comprehensive. Courses include:
(Senate Mandated)
(Mandatory, 4 credit each) Topical courses: MTH601 (Algebra) MTH602 (Topology) MTH605 (Analysis).
(Seminar, 2 credit each) IDC601, IDC602: also tied with department mandated reading courses.
(Elective, 4 credit each) Two from MTH4**/MTH6** electives as offered.
(Department Mandated) Three of (Two-month reading course).
Performance will be tied to the credit of seminar courses, these are also treated as en-route to finding a potential supervisor.
