* The following document is being created on the basis of available information. In case of any discrepancies the senate mandated version will be final. Dean Academics office is the final authority in this matter. Several details are available on the Dean’s Office maintained website (also see legacy webpage: rules & guidelines).

** About course numbers:
– For MTH courses (and department managed IDC courses) you can click the course numbers below to see the corresponding course content.
– Note that sometimes the linked page may have a different (inaccurate) course number since the linked page refers to a course that was earlier named differently. It is the content of the course that is intended to be linked in such cases.
– In ERP each course will carry a “v.2” suffix to indicate it is the latest one.

Note: Normally, after coursework Integrated PhD students continue to PhD: they should qualify a comprehensive examination to be conducted by a committee headed by the potential supervisor to qualify for the same. However they may instead opt to submit a Master’s thesis (additional year) instead of a PhD thesis subject to the guidelines of senate. Please consult Dean Academics office for details and specific requirements.

PhD Program

The program entails two semesters of coursework followed by a comprehensive examination to be conducted by a committee headed by the potential supervisor qualifying which enables the candidate to start with their PhD. There is a minimum CPI that is required to be maintained in the coursework, and other performance requirements for a candidate to be eligible for writing the comprehensive. Courses include:

(Senate Mandated)
(Mandatory, 4 credit each) Topical courses: MTH601 (Algebra) MTH602 (Topology) MTH605 (Analysis).
(Seminar, 2 credit each) IDC601, IDC602: also tied with department mandated reading courses.
(Elective, 4 credit each) Two from MTH4**/MTH6** electives as offered.

(Department Mandated) Three of (Two-month reading course).
Performance will be tied to the credit of seminar courses, these are also treated as en-route to finding a potential supervisor.
