Arvind Kumar Shakya is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at IISER Mohali from July 2023. He worked as a Post Doctoral researcher at IIT Kanpur on the Indo-EU project “Pavitra Ganga” from 2020 to 2023. He worked as an Assistant Professor at Rama University in Uttar Pradesh from 2019 to 2020. He worked as a Project Fellow at IIT Guwahati from July 2018 to January 2019. In 2008, he earned a B.Tech. from SVBP University in Meerut, and in 2010, he earned an M. Tech. from Karunya University in Coimbatore. In 2018, he obtained his Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from IIT Guwahati. His research interests include water/wastewater treatment as well as waste management. Much of his research has focused on the design and performance evaluation of bioreactors, primarily for heavy metal/metalloids removal, resource recovery, and water reuse. He has worked on bioenergy generation from waste generated by Membrane Bioreactors in the waste management arena. He has investigated the use of waste materials and resources in the drinking water purification process. He has also contributed to the simultaneous removal of multicontaminants and studied the leaching and stability features of Biosolids/Biosludge created during the anaerobic metals and metalloids removal in sulfidogenic reactors. He has also investigated the production and recovery of metal nanoparticles for potential reuse. In the current study, he is concentrating on monitoring and analysis of organic Micropollutants in water/wastewater, water reuse, and resource recovery. Arvind is the author of twelve papers and two book chapters based on his studies on arsenic, iron, nitrate, and fluoride removal. In 2018, his paper “Performance of Attached Growth Bioreactor on Simultaneous Removal of Arsenic, Nitrate, and Fluoride” won the Best Paper Presentation Award, and in 2016, his paper “Investigation of multipollutants removal in anaerobic batch bioreactors by means of terminal electron accepting process” won the Best Poster Presentation Award. He has given invited presentations and assessed peer-reviewed academic publications.
