Welcome to the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences (EES) at IISER Mohali! Our department is a hub of interdisciplinary research aimed at understanding and addressing Earth’s complexities and environmental challenges pertinent to sustainability development goals. The multidisciplinary faculty team of EES translates into teaching possibilities spanning diverse subjects within Earth and Environmental Sciences.

The key areas of our research include analyzing regional climate and atmospheric dynamics, employing satellite remote sensing for diverse earth observation, interpreting paleoclimatic sedimentary (such as lake sediments) records, and predicting landslides and erosion patterns, to innovating bio-based wastewater treatment and water reuse techniques, exploring electromicrobiology for sustainable solutions, and investigating air quality and atmospheric chemistry. Our commitment extends to traversing Earth’s history through organicgeochemical techniques and delving into the realms of granitic magmatism, metamorphism and associated metallogeny.
