3.5 The GNU-ish DOS project and others

In order to make the GNU software (which has largely been written for the Unix-like environment) available to the users of IBM-compatible XT, AT286 paltforms, there is the GNU-ish project. In addition, there is a lot of software available at various archive sites either via the network (free) or for nominal copying charges which makes many packages which usually run only on high level machines accessible to users of personal computers.
