DBS has a strong and vibrant group in the field of developmental and regenerative biology. The Developmental Genetics Laboratory at IISER (MOHALI), led by Dr. Lolitika Mandal, is interested in Hematopoiesis, Cardiogenesis and Molecular pathways in stem and progenitor cell development. Her group is exploring the molecular and mechanistic basis of the microenvironment that is supportive of stem cells, commonly referred as 'stem cell niche'. They are are also interested in unraveling novel genes and mechanisms that controls hematopoietic progenitors cell specification and differentiation.

Dr. Sudip Manda's lab is keenly interested in in understanding the role of mitochondrion in controlling cell biological processes like proliferation, growth and differentiation. They use the model organism, Drosophila melanogaster, for genetic dissection of retrograde signaling pathways from mitochondria to nucleus that are essential in modulating cellular responses.

Dr. Rajesh Ramachandran's group studies the epigenetic and transcriptional basis of regenerative ability in teleosts. Their group prioritise several key factors like Ascl1a, FoxN4, Zic2b, Myc, CTCF etc. and the signalling pathways like wnt, hedgehog, notch etc. to understand the mechanistic basis of retina regeneration in zebrafish. They are also keen to integrate the genomics approaches, like RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq and Hi-C to their study.
