BS-MS Program
Overview
The integrated BS-MS at IISER-Mohali is a dual degree program designed to enable students with a comprehensive, hands-on, and research oriented education in basic sciences. The program spans a duration of five years, including a research project covering the entire final year. In DBS, we have very diverse research groups covering almost all major areas of biological research. The students are also encouraged to visit and work in these labs during the semester breaks to explore their interests. In the final year project, students can engage actively in cutting edge research projects in-house or other national and international labs. Most SB-MS students are able to contribute significantly in the research projects and often bag authorships in the research articles.
Eligibility
Candidates must have passed Class 12 or equivalent level exam with Science stream in 2021 or 2022 from any board recognised by the Council of Boards School Education in India (COBSE) with at least 60% aggregate or equivalent (55% aggregate for SC/ ST/ PwD) to apply for BS-MS (dual degree) programme. Aspirants must be an Indian national or PIO or OCI to apply for admission.
Admission Process
A maximum of 25% of the seats will be allocated through KVPY and JEE Advanced channels. Remaining seats will be filled through the SCB channel based on the merit in the IISER Aptitude Test. Unfilled seats from KVPY and JEE channels, if any, will also be added to the SCB channel for allotment.
Course work
The core part of the program provides comprehensive training in all basic sciences during the first two years. Students are expected to choose a subject to major in for the remaining three years where the curriculum is divided between mandatory courses, subject electives and open electives. Open electives can be taken in any subject and allow students to fashion their own programs. Apart from courses in specific subjects, some inter-disciplinary courses are also offered on a regular basis. These courses are in areas that are useful to multiple branches of science. Students have no dearth of choices with more than 80 elective courses to choose from.
