Vigyan Pratibha Project Staff position, IISER Mohali 

 

Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Mohali, organizer of the National Program for the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) 2025, will hold a walk-in interview for one position of Scientific Assistant B (SA-B) under the Vigyan Pratibha project on December 02, 2024 at 9:00 am. Recruitment of the project staff is for a duration of one year only. Interested candidates should fill out the following google form by 5:00 pm on November 30, 2024.

Job Description: The candidate is expected to

  • contribute to academic and organizational preparations for the Indian National Astronomy Olympiad
  • develop a network of resource persons for various project activities
  • engage in research on astronomy education and develop materials related to astronomy
  • assist in conducting astronomy outreach programs like stargazing events.

 

Minimum Qualification:

  • M. Sc. in Physics/Electronics/Astronomy/Astrophysics, or other equivalent subjects from a recognized university/institute with an aggregate of 60% marks or equivalent CGPA and knowledge of basic astronomy
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and their applications

 

  Desirable:

  1. Experience in teaching/ scientific writing/ content development activities.
  2. Experience with the Linux operating system and proficiency in programming languages such as Python, FORTRAN, or C++.
  3. Competence in using spreadsheet software (like MS Excel), LaTeX for typesetting, and GNUplot for data visualization.
  4. A strong interest in astronomy education and the analysis of astronomical data.

 

  Salary: INR 35,400/- + HRA

 

Important Notes:

You are required to bring a valid photo id and mark sheet of master’s degree for verification.  Kindly also bring experience certificates or reference letters affirming the credentials about knowledge in astronomy and astronomy education. The successful candidate is expected to join soon after the announcement of the result.
