Walk-in interview on August 02, 2016, 10:00 AM for the post of a Project Assistant and a JRF on two DST projects

Project Assistant:

No. of positions: 1

Duration: 11 months

Emoluments: Rs. 22000/- + HRA (as per rules)

Essential Qualifications:  B .Tech in Electronics/ M.Sc in Physics

The candidates must be strongly motivated to work on low-temperature, ultra-high vacuum systems. The candidates must have minimum 2 years of working experience in a physics research lab. Candidates having experience of handling liquid helium will be preferred. The candidates having co-authorship in at least one physics journal will be preferred.

Documents to be brought on the day of interview:

  1. Certificates confirming the required academic degrees.
  2. Detailed CV of the candidate.
  3. Letter from the previous employer (in a physics research lab) clearly indicating the nature of work and duration. If the candidate has the experience of handling liquid helium, that must be mentioned in this letter.  The Letter should contain the phone number of the employer so that the interview committee may contact the employer directly for any additional information, if required. The candidates will not be interviewed without this Letter.
  4. A preprint of the research paper in a physics journal where the candidate is a co-author.

JRF (Junior Research Fellow)

No. of positions: 1

Duration: 1 year

Emoluments: As per DST rules.

Essential Qualifications: M Sc in Physics or BS-MS with Physics major.

The candidates must be strongly motivated to work on low-temperature, ultra-high vacuum systems. Prior knowledge of thin film deposition by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) and scanning probe microscopic techniques is desired. The candidates must have good knowledge of computers and they should be familiar with some UNIX-based operating systems. Programming experience with Python and/or MATLAB will be a plus. The interview will be focused on the technical competence of the candidate in experimental technique like scanning probe microscopy, PLD and other experiments relevant to condensed matter physics as well as in electronics and computers.

The candidates will have to work closely with engineers and scientists of several scanning-probe microscopy-based companies worldwide. They may need to attend international conferences and present their research work. Therefore, good communication skill in English is desired. The candidates will be given rigorous training on low-temperature and ultra-high vacuum techniques, electron-beam lithography, thin film deposition and scanning tunneling microscopy. The candidates should be willing to appear for the IISER M PhD interviews in the future and pursue research towards a PhD degree.
