Online Interview for Research Fellow (RF) Position in a Research Project funded by NICES/ISRO, Government of India

Applications are invited from Indian citizens for a temporary post of Junior (first two years)/Senior (third year) Research Fellowship for the NICES/NRSC sponsored project in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Mohali.

Number of Positions: 01 Research Fellow

Duration: initially one year (extendable up to one more year)

Essential Qualifications: M.Sc./M.Tech in Atmospheric Science/Meteorology/Climate Science/ Geophysics/ Hydrometeorology/Hydrology/Computer Engineering/Physics or any disciplines related to Environmental Science from a recognized University/Institution with minimum first class (60% marks or equivalent CGPA). Applicants should also have qualified one of the following: CSIR-UGC National Eligibility Test, including NET-Lectureship and/or GATE/JAM/ or equivalent national level exams.

Desired qualifications:

Familiarity with the analysis of data sets from climate models would be a big plus. Knowledge of appropriate programming languages such as FORTRAN, NCL, Python, R, and shell scripting. Prior research experience in WRF modelling (WRF) and data assimilation is desired.

Emoluments:  Rs 37,000 per month plus 18% HRA as per norms. Candidates underperforming can be terminated at any point with a short notice. Candidates who join PhD program simultaneously may have alternate funding options in future depending on academic as well as research performance and availability of funds from various sources. Shortlisted candidates will be considered for an online interview at a later date, which will be notified by email only. The selected candidates must submit a copy of all original certificates, experience certificates, and other relevant documents immediately after completion of the selection processes and bring all original certificates, experience certificates, and other relevant documents at the time of joining for verification. Selected candidates will have to join duty at the earliest on receipt of the offer Letter. RF should be encouraged to enroll Ph.D. program at IISER Mohali.

General Information:

1. Appointment is purely temporary and will terminate automatically without any notice or compensation on termination of the research project. Leaving of position will be done after one month of accepting resignation letter from candidate or on mutual understanding basis.
2. The appointed person shall have no claim of appointment / absorption in Funding Agency.
3. Appointment of the applicant will be governed by the terms and conditions of the funding agency particularly applicable to the said project
4. The qualification prescribed should have been obtained from recognized Universities / Institutions.
5. The prescribed educational qualifications are the bare minimum and mere possession of same does not entitled candidates to be called for interview. Where number of applications received in response to this advertisement is large, it will not be convenient or possible to interview all the candidates. Based on the Screening/shortlisting, the Project Leader/ Principal Investigator may restrict the number of candidates to be called for the interview to a reasonable limit after taking into consideration qualifications and experience over and above the minimum prescribed in the advertisement. Therefore, it will be in the interest of the candidates, to mention all the qualifications and experience in the relevant field at the time of applying.
6. Selected candidates will have to join duty at the earliest on receipt of the offer Letter.
