Application for the position of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in ANRF funded project:

IISER Mohali (Department of Biological Sciences) desires to recruit a JRF in an ANRF funded project entitled: Investigating the Genetic Basis of Bacterial Antagonism Against Mucormycosis causing Fungi’.

Essential Qualification: (i) Master’s Degree in any branch of biology from a recognized University or equivalent. AND (ii) 1-2 years’ experience in Research and Development in Industrial and Academic Institutions or Science and Technology Organizations and Scientific activities and services. AND iii) Qualification in any all-India examination (e.g., NET, GATE, DBT-JRF, etc.) Desirable: For successful and timely completion of the project goals, candidates with prior experience in isolating and rearing of macrofungi, transcriptomics and genomics, advanced molecular biology, handling of live microbes and with advanced bioinformatics skills in handling and analyzing high-throughput transcriptome and genomics data will be preferred. 

Description of project and duties: The project aims to investigate the genetic and genomic basis of bacterial inhibition of fungi. The JRF will work closely with a team of researchers, gaining hands-on experience in conducting experiments on microbes and analyzing transcriptomic and genomic data. Responsibilities will include assisting with rearing, maintaining and co-culturing assays of fungi and bacteria. The JRF will receive training in data collection, analysis, and proper documentation to support both audits and scientific publications. Additionally, the role involves contributing to essential lab operations, including the procurement and maintenance of reagents, supplies, and animal stocks necessary for the project.

Emoluments: Emoluments as per norms and as sanctioned in the ANRF project.

General Information: ·        

  • Appointment letters to selected candidates will be issued only after the money arrives from ANRF·        
  • Appointment is purely on temporary basis and extension will depend on the performance of the candidate towards achieving the goals of the project. If the PI and Co-PI determine that progress towards the project goals is insufficient, then the candidate will be terminated from the post with one month’s prior notice.·        
  • Emoluments disbursed will depend upon the arrival of the grant money from ANRF and the candidate is forewarned that no compensatory emoluments will be provided by IISER Mohali if there is any delay in the arrival of funds from ANRF.·        
  • The position may terminate automatically without any notice or compensation on termination of the research project.·        
  • Leaving of position will be done after one month of accepting resignation letter from candidate or on mutual understanding basis. The appointed person shall have no claim of appointment/absorption in the Funding Agency/IISER Mohali.·        
  • Appointment of the applicant will be governed by the terms and conditions of the Funding Agency, and liable to changes as directed by the Government/Funding Agency particularly applicable to the said project.·        
  • The educational qualification mentioned above should have been obtained from recognized Universities/Institutions only.·        
  • If the educational qualification and work experience are the bare minimum, then mere possession of the same will not entitle candidates to be called for the interview. No other communication (email, phone call, personal appointment, etc.) will be entertained by the candidates before and after the selection process.
