Walk in interview for two project assistant positions in Max-Planck Society, Germany and Department of Science and Technology, India funded bilateral research projects at IISER Mohali

Title of project 1: A study of the emissions and chemistry of methanol, acetone and acetaldehyde present in ambient air using high temporal resolution in-situ chemical measurements and modeling techniques in the Indo-Gangetic Plain

 

Title of project 2: A study of the emissions and chemistry of biogenic terpenes present in ambient air using high temporal resolution in-situ chemical measurements and modeling techniques in the Indo-Gangetic Plain

 

The project will require data analysis of large datasets, interpretation of mass spectra, programming in IGOR PRO / Matlab, modeling and experimental work involving  analytical techniques like proton transfer reaction mass spectrometry and optical spectroscopy (for more details on the available facilities check out http://www.currentscience.ac.in/Volumes/104/12/1703.pdf

Duration of project: The position is initially for 6 months which could be extended on yearly basis, subject to satisfactory performance up to 2017. Project start date can be decided on mutual convenience but should be no later than 01.01.2014

 

Emoluments: As per Department of Science and Technology, India norms

 

Essential Qualifications: M.Sc. in Physics or Chemistry or Botany with strong interest in Atmospheric Science and high degree of motivation for research.

Good programming skills, experience in handling large datasets, scientific writing, field work and theoretical training in gas chromatography / mass spectrometry are desirable.

 

 Candidates should preferably have a valid GATE or CSIR/UGC (JRF/NET) qualification
