Academic Trajectory

I did my Masters in Physics in 1990 from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. I obtained my Ph.D. from the Department of Physics and the Centre for Theoretical Studies at the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore in 1997. I then joined the Physics department of Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar as a faculty member. During 2002-2004, I was at the Physics Department of Carnegie Mellon University Pittsburgh as a special faculty. I joined as a faculty member in the physics department of the Indian Institute of Technology-Madras in 2005 and then moved to IISER Mohali in August 2007.

I am a theoretical physicist working in the areas of
  • Quantum Information Theory: focusing on the study of quantum entanglement and its evolution in a dissipative environment, with applications to quantum computing.
  • Quantum Optics: applying group theoretic techniques to quantum optical problems, i.e the non-classical properties of the radiation field and the connection with the violation of Bell-type inequalities.
  • Foundations of Quantum Mechanics: including the counterintuitive and novel aspects of quantum theory.
